Toner Refill Instructions

Toner Angel provide online video refill instructions for a wide range of toner cartridges. The page and videos below will show you the basic refill methods/technqiues used. (for more information please view the product page to see which method your cartridge requires)

Method 1 - Unplug Empty and Refill

Printer manufacturers including Brother, Konica Minolta, OKI and Samsung have left a removeable cap on the outside of the toner cartridge. When your cartridge runs out of toner simply remove the hopper cap, empty out the old toner and then pour in the new toner! This method is used widely by many of todays popular cartridges

Method 2 - Unscrew, Empty and Refill

Some toner cartridges have hidden the removeable cap. To locate the hole or cap you will simply need to remove a screw (or screws).

Removing the screw (or screws) will reveal the filling hole and allow you to empty and refill. A lot of different cartridges can be refilled using this same basic method although each cartridge model may have more than 1 screw to remove.

Method 3 - Melt and Pour

If your cartridge does not have a removable cap our "Melt & Pour" method is often the easiest way to refill. Create a hole in your cartridge (in the correct position) and then refill the cartridge with toner. This method is widely used to refill both Canon and HP (Hewlett Packard cartridges).

As you can see from the video below - creating the hole is easy.

Our melting tool (sold seperatley) is the easiest way of making a precise hole in your empty cartridge.Once you have created a hole, pour the toner in and seal with tape.

Method 4 - Twist, Empty and Refill

Some of the more modern cartridges are really just a tube that holds toner. Refilling them is simple. To refill you simply "Twist, Empty & Refill".

Some of the more modern cartridges such as the Dell 3000, 3010, 3100 and Epson c1100, CX11N, CX11NF can be refilled as many times as you want. There are no working parts inside the toner tube that ever need to be replaced. During our Epson c1100 testing we refilled the same cartridge over ten times and the same cartridges are actually still printing in our offices now !

Photoconductor/OPC/ Drum Unit Reset

Often printer manufacturers sell the printers pre-programmed to run the "Photoconductor Unit" only to a certain number of prints. Once that count is reached the machine will "Lock Up" even if the drum unit is still producing perfect good copies. If your machine was printing good copies when the "replace drum message" appeared you can use our reset chips/fuses to extend the life drum unit.

If your machine was printing good copies when the "replace photoconductor message" appeared you can use our reset chips/fuses to extend the life drum unit.

Drum units may also need the waste toner section, to be emptied. Our instructions will show you how.

General Refilling Advice:

  • Do not refill a defective cartridge.
  • Empty and refill in a suitable area i.e your garage
  • Read the provided instructions from start to finish before you begin.
  • Use only dedicated toner for your cartridge/engine.
  • Before opening the bottle of toner, shake vigorously. This will loosen the toner and allow it to flow freely.
  • After shaking remove the cap and seal from the bottle.
  • Attach the funnel making to sure it is on tightly. Tilt the funnel cap toward the filling hole and insert it into the hole.
  • If the toner stops flowing before the cartridge is full, simply remove the toner, close the cap, turn the bottle upside down and tap it on a table.

Different printer manufacuters use different cartidge designs so your cartridge might vary in exact detail from the examples above, but the principle will be the same. You may also need to change a chip or reset the cartridge - our instructions will show you how.
